The lady risks a scandal by hiding in plain sight!
Lady Victoria Courtney has abandoned hope of winning the heart of the dashing Richard, Marquis of Lansdon, until she’s mistaken for a woman of the London stage and impulsively takes on a role.
It’s the Marquis’s turn to be smitten, but when the masquerade ends, will he believe she’s the heroine or the villain? Mistaken identities, separated lovers and love gone astray – it’s all part of the comedy in this romance set Jane Austen’s England.
Jacqueline Diamond’s half-dozen romances, in the traditional Regency style of Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer, include A Lady’s Point of View and A Lady of Letters. The author of more than a hundred novels, Jacqueline has received a Career Achievement Award from Romantic Times magazine and two finalist placements for the prestigious RITA © Award.
“…a treat to any Regency romance fan, feeling reminiscent of Georgette Heyer at her best. I was laughing throughout this book as I eagerly turned each page.”—wrote Danya in Night Owl Reviews.

I've enjoyed some of Jacqueline Diamond's books - I know they aren't blockbusters but they are entertaining. This one really wasn't good at all. The H & h were not particularly well drawn and so I never got a strong feeling for either one of them or really understood why they were doing the things they did - nor did I care. There was a very unnecessary scene with a secondary character that really should not have been in the book. SPOILER...One of the male characters attempts to rape the heroine when he thinks she is just an orphaned governess (not a "lady"). A female character interrupts the attempt and scolds him but proceeds to marry him later in the book. Why does she marry a would-be rapist? Well, she's unattractive and a little overweight so despite her money she can't really get a man who isn't poverty stricken and is completely lacking in morals. Poorly done.Product details

Lady in Disguise A Regency Romance edition by Jacqueline Diamond Romance eBooks Reviews
Great book.
Do not misunderstand me I like Oscar Wilde but to write a novel ala Oscar Wilde is just too much. To be honest with you I did not get through half the book before I had to give up. However, if you like that kind of style by all means buy the book but it is not a book for me.
Combine Jane Austin and Georgette Heyer and add some Midsummer Nights Dream from Shakespeare, and you can imagine the story you'll have. Jacqueline Diamond throws in a dash of all three in a sweet Regency romance that provides lots of unexpected twists in this delightful romp. I read the story in one day.
Though i really wanted to SMACK the hero the last chapters. Victoria though was a great great Lead. I really enjoyed all the characters except the hero, though how he responded was probabaly more realistic than what I have read in a lot of books. This was a delightful story and I hope to see these characters again.
This is the story for you if you ever were frustrated with a man and wanted to teach him a lesson.
I agree with another reviewer that this "hero" was more realistic but less satisfying than some other stories, however this story is just so much fun and has so many twists that you are "into it" from start to finish.
I would recommend this book to my friends (and have).
It was a good story, well written and the story line was easy to follow. The author drew the reader in with her well defined characters and allowed us to experience her characters many emotions. The story had intrigue, suspense, betrayal, webs of lies, and romance. The happy ending took long in coming. I will read more of this author's books in the future.
I did enjoy this book. The writing was perfect. I hate reading and picking out mistakes in grammar. I was very drawn in to the flawed characters. Some artistic license was taken at some instances I beleive, but that's to be expected in romance. I didn't especially like how she barely knew him but was already in love. The author did give them time to know each other, but I don't think it was enough. And while things weren't quickly resolved I feel like they just waited until they were less mad. I think there could have been more tension from the people she lied too but since she did it for love everyone kind of just glossed over it. How her reputation was still in tact I have no idea. But oh well. It's a fun light read with only the hint of depth.
